Athletic career and achievements
Brian is one of America's leading discus throwers and is targeting a Top 20 world ranking by the end of 2026 as he builds towards qualifying for the 2027 World Championships and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
His international breakthrough came in 2019 when he made his first Team USA World Championships squad in his first season after college. Despite battling injuries and limited financial support, he earned selection again in 2023 before producing the best performance of his career, reaching the World Championship final and finishing ninth in the world.

Brian's sporting journey began in American football before a high school injury unexpectedly introduced him to discus. What started as a chance opportunity ultimately led to an international athletics career.
Challenges and opportunity
Brian's story is defined by resilience rather than a traditional pathway to elite sport. After receiving no collegiate scholarship offers despite state-level success in high school, he stepped away from athletics, worked full-time and attended community college while struggling with depression and uncertainty about his future.
Choosing to return to throwing purely for the love of the sport transformed his career. He walked on at Iowa Central Community College, becoming an NJCAA National Champion, American Junior College Record holder and one of the youngest qualifiers for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. Those achievements earned him a full scholarship to the University of Mississippi, where he became a multiple-time NCAA First Team All-American.
Since turning professional, Brian has continued to overcome injuries, coaching changes and financial challenges to establish himself on the world stage. With the support of partners who believe in his potential, he is now focused on climbing into the world's Top 20, representing Team USA at the 2027 World Championships and competing for a medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
