Athletic career and achievements
Former college tennis player Ben Stern entered triathlon just four years ago with no prior endurance sport background. After stepping away from both tennis and a startup venture to pursue professional triathlon full-time, he quickly established himself as a promising long-course athlete. Ben earned his professional licence in 2023 after completing 17 half and full IRONMAN races across two seasons — a rapid rise that reflects both his resilience and methodical approach to performance. Ben's preferred racing colours, purple and gold, are inspired by his favourite NBA team, the Los Angeles Lakers.
Known among training partners as “Sterdy” for his ability to consistently absorb heavy training loads, Ben approaches triathlon with the same rational, long-term mindset he once applied to building a business. He views athletic development as a process of steady, sustainable progression rather than relying on motivation or extremes.
Away from racing, he enjoys spending time with his partner and dog, watching the Premier League, spearfishing, skiing.
In 2026, Ben is focused on continuing to establish himself within the professional long-course triathlon ranks while improving his PTO and national rankings through consistent performances across IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 events. Through his journey, he hopes to inspire others to take risks and pursue goals that may initially seem unrealistic.
