Coaching and community
Cheswill trains under respected South African coach Reneilwe Aphane, who has guided several international-level athletes. Together they have overseen his successful transition from long jump to sprinting, resulting in significant improvements in his 100 m and 200 m performances while continuing to represent South Africa on the world stage.
Training at the University of Johannesburg, he says training alongside his teammates has been a big boost. He draws motivation from the competitive environment at UJ which continues to push him to improve.
Sports background
Originally an elite long jumper, Cheswill established himself as one of Africa's leading athletes in the event, representing South Africa at two Olympic Games and winning multiple continental medals.
He is redirecting his focus to sprinting, where his natural speed has translated into rapid progress in the 100 m and 200 m. His transition has already produced national records, international medals and continued selection for major championships, demonstrating his adaptability and determination to compete at the highest level.
Challenges and opportunity
Representing South Africa internationally requires far more than talent. Like many elite athletes, Cheswill must personally fund much of the cost of pursuing his career.
Although he has represented his country at multiple Olympic Games and major international championships, he is currently without commercial sponsorship and relies primarily on prize money to continue competing. The reality is that many of the world's highest-paying competitions are held overseas, where flights, visas, accommodation, travel insurance, recovery, nutrition and competition expenses can quickly become unaffordable.
Every international competition is an opportunity for Cheswill to not only to compete against the world's best but also to earn the prize money needed to continue chasing future success.
Corporate partners and individual supporters have the opportunity to make a genuine difference. Your support will directly contribute to competition travel, training, recovery, nutrition and other essential performance costs, allowing Cheswill to focus on what he does best—representing South Africa and continuing his rise as one of the country's leading sprinters.
Every contribution, regardless of size, helps remove financial barriers and brings him one step closer to achieving his full potential.
