Christian Shelton-White is a 16-year-old short track speedskater from the Washington, DC metropolitan area whose journey began in 2021 at age 11—without any previous skating experience.
What began as learning to skate has developed into a serious pursuit of high-performance short track. Christian has progressed from a complete beginner to competing at U.S. Speedskating Age Group Nationals and in the Heartland and NEST Racing Series, while continuing to build the technique, strength, efficiency, and race intelligence required to advance in the sport.
Christian trains with Potomac Speedskating Club and receives individualized technical coaching from 1994 U.S. Olympian and former U.S. National Team coach Tony Goskowicz. His development has also included training experiences with Olympic champion Shani Davis, Olympian Maame Biney, and elite coach Anthony Barthell. In September 2026, Christian received Skate-Tec M-Wave Flex short-track blades donated by a speedskating Olympian to support his continued development.
Christian brings the same discipline to academics. A student in Walter Johnson High School's APEX program, he holds a 3.95 cumulative GPA and 4.67 weighted GPA. Before his junior year, he completed eight college credits through Stanford University's Summer Session.
His long-term goal is ambitious: develop toward the level required to pursue a place on the U.S. Short Track Olympic Team in 2034. Christian understands that goal is not guaranteed. His focus is on earning each next step—improving his technique, competing against stronger fields, accessing higher-performance training environments, and discovering how far consistent work can take him.
His approach is simple: “Don't chase speed. Build the skater who creates it.”
