From medical doctor to World Championship athlete.

Just three years after taking up triathlon, Swiss medical doctor Corina Bello has progressed from recreational athlete to multiple age group Ironman 70.3 winner and World Championship contender. Next up, pro licence.

After qualifying for the 2026 Ironman World Championship in Kona, she is now pushing beyond the 70.3 distance. Her journey is particularly compelling because she has achieved this alongside a demanding professional career rather than instead of one. The next chapter is about discovering how far she can go when she creates more space for performance as in 2027 she will take up professional status.

    Athletic career

Corina Bello's rise in triathlon has been remarkably rapid. She only started the sport three years ago after joining friends for a bike ride and has since progressed to the top 7 in the world in her age group over the 70.3 distance. She has won two Ironman 70.3 races outright in her age group, including Ironman 70.3 Emilia-Romagna in 2025 and Ironman 70.3 Switzerland in 2026.

She has now qualified for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, where she will compete in only her second full-distance Ironman. Before then, she will return to the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, making it her third World Championship appearance in just three years in the sport.

What makes Corina's progression even more unusual is what has been happening alongside it. Until April 2026, she was working full-time in anesthesiology and emergency medicine while training and competing internationally. She now works part-time as a sports doctor, giving her greater capacity to pursue her own athletic ambitions while remaining connected to the medical and sporting worlds.

Her goal is not simply to collect results, it is to understand what becomes possible when a high-performing professional creates the space, structure and support to pursue another form of excellence, as a professional triathlete as of 2027.

    Coaching and community

Corina is coached by TriVelo and also works as a coach for BYTX Coaching, combining her own high-performance training with helping other athletes develop.

Her experience as an athlete, coach and sports doctor gives her a perspective that extends beyond racing. She understands the demands of training and competing at a high level while also helping other athletes navigate their own development.

This creates a natural connection with the wider age-group endurance community, many of whom are balancing ambitious sporting goals with careers, families and other commitments.

    Sports background

Corina's route into elite triathlon has been anything but conventional. Growing up in Switzerland, she did not come from a sporting background and never considered herself an endurance athlete. Her only childhood sporting activity was weekly hip-hop dancing.

She started running during medical school simply to keep fit, with no competitive ambitions. When she began her medical residency, she even swore that she would not do endurance sport again. That changed when friends invited her on a bike ride. In true Swiss fashion, the supposedly casual ride involved around 1,500 metres of elevation over approximately 30 miles. Corina was exhausted but hooked.

She continued cycling with the group and when they entered a triathlon, she decided to join them. Three years later, she is a multiple Ironman 70.3 winner, World Championship-level athlete and Ironman World Championship qualifier.

Her story shows that elite potential does not always come from an elite sporting background. Sometimes it is discovered later, when the right opportunity comes along.

    Association

Corina trains at OYM in Switzerland, a high-performance centre supporting athletes across sport science, training, recovery and performance.

    Challenges and opportunity

Corina represents a different kind of elite athlete.

She is not someone who stepped away from normal working life to become an athlete. She is someone who has built an impressive career as a doctor while simultaneously discovering that she has the potential to compete at the highest level of her age group.

That distinction matters. For the thousands of amateur and age-group athletes who train before work, between meetings and around professional commitments, Corina's journey is far more relatable than that of a full-time professional athlete. They may never stand on a World Championship podium themselves but they understand the early alarms, the training around work, the competing priorities and the question of ‘What could I achieve if I had a little more time and support?’

Corina gives that audience someone to identify with while still providing the inspiration and credibility of an elite performer.

For brands, this creates an opportunity to connect with an engaged endurance community through a story that sits at the intersection of high performance, professional ambition, women's sport, health and everyday achievement.

As Corina moves towards Kona and transitions into professional triathlete life, support can help fund the travel, racing, equipment, coaching, training camps, recovery and professional support required to compete internationally. It also gives partners the opportunity to become part of a much bigger story ‘What happens when someone who has already achieved a lot in one demanding career decides to find out what else she is capable of?’

Corina is not asking partners to fund a finished story. She is inviting them to become part of one that is still being written.
