Meet Sam McInnes, a rising star hailing from the picturesque town of St Andrews, Scotland. Currently stationed in the vibrant training hub of Boulder, Colorado, Sam is a dedicated member of the esteemed Ian O'Brien Coaching squad.

With aspirations set high, Sam's sights are firmly fixed on proudly donning the national colors of Scotland in the exhilarating Continental Cups. However, Sam's ambitions don't stop there; the ultimate dream, albeit a highly prestigious and demanding path, is none other than the Olympic Games.

Athletic Career and Achievements

Sam progressed her promising school triathlon career into a sports scholarship to Queens University of Charlotte, relocating from Thailand to the USA to do so. Within three months of the move, Sam was standing on the podiums of USA national championship events.

A true testament to Sam's commitment to excellence is her pivotal role in leading the Queens NCAA triathlon team to two resounding victories in the National Championships. This career highlight not only solidified Sam's place as a force to be reckoned with but also showcased her innate leadership and determination.

Recent Results: during the 2025 season, Sam posted consistent results on the European Triathlon Cup circuit.

Ranking: World Triathlon #629.

Sports background: Sam came to triathlon having tried several sports, including rock climbing, cross country running, skiing and swimming.

Challenges and Opportunity

Competing on the professional triathlon circuit means Sam regularly travels across Europe and beyond, with flights, accommodation, race entries, equipment and performance support all forming part of the cost of progression. She helps fund that journey herself, balancing the demands of international racing with freelance work as a marketing assistant.

What fuels Sam's unwavering dedication to the grind? The camaraderie found amidst the crisp mountain air and breathtaking views that keeps the fire burning. Sharing sweat, laughter and aspirations with teammates amidst the grandeur of nature is the daily motivation that propels Sam to tirelessly train day in and day out, inching ever closer to the pinnacles of her sporting journey.

That makes this a genuine moment of opportunity. Sam has proven she can compete internationally, from early podiums in the US to consistent performances on the European Triathlon Cup circuit, and is now working to convert that momentum into higher-level representation for Scotland. Backing Sam means helping remove the financial barriers that can limit potential, giving her greater freedom to focus on training, recovery and competition as she pursues Continental Cups and the long-term goal of the Olympic Games.
